PRODUCTION RENTAL SERVICES AND IT'S PRICE!

WRITTEN BY: Greg Scoblete
If you’re relatively new to video productions, don’t want to deal with lugging around carry on, or have an assignment that simply exceeds the scope of your current gear, you’ll likely make a pilgrimage to the rental house.
There are infinitely many ways to stretch your rental dollar and while each production carries its own unique demands, we scoured the rental listings to give you a sense of how far your rental budget will go based on some of the basic gear you may find yourself relying on. We perused sites like Adorama Rentals, MPE Camera & Lighting, Samy’s Camera, Lens Rental, Lighthouse Films, Abelcine, CSI Rentals and more to get our estimates.
Before you reach for the credit card, here are a few things to keep in mind:
You’ll need to leave a substantial credit card deposit or carry insurance that explicitly identifies your rental house as a payee in the event goods are damaged. Some rental companies will insure their own gear for you for an added fee, much like an added warranty. We know some photographers who add this insurance in as a line-item for their clients.
We budgeted based on a single day,  but some gear and some rental houses won’t part with equipment on a daily basis. Instead will require a minimum rental—usually three days. Some HMI lights and cinematography cameras like an Arri Alexa may fall into this category. Also, the concept of “time” gets fuzzier when you rent—a week can be considered four days in some shops while a two-day weekend can often count as a single day.
If you don’t know how to use the gear you’re renting (or just need more hands on deck), you can rent people, too, often from the same place. You can also throw hands-on training into your purchase so you’re confident you’ll be able to effectively use the gear you’re renting. We found, for instance, that Production Junction will train you to use DJI’s Ronin electronic gimbal for $50 before you leave with it.
What You Get On A $1,000 Budget
Let’s assume you’re all set with your HD DSLR or video camera as well as a tripod with a video head.
To get a decent video project off the ground you may want to consider a quality cinema lens, follow-focus system/rig, external recorder/monitor, audio and lights.
Lenses: Cinema lenses for a Canon EF mount can run about $90 for a single prime lens. Zooms will quickly devour your budget— a Zeiss 28-80mm T2.9 compact zoom rents for about $400. For that price you can also rent a set of Canon Cinema primes, which will contain between three to six focal lengths, depending on your rental outlet.
Follow Focus: If you’re bringing your own camera to the party but renting cinema lenses, you’ll likely need a follow focus system to ensure you’re smoothly pulling focus on a moving subject. Manual follow focus systems can be had for $35-$80 while wireless systems can command up to $175.
Recorder: One of the pricier items on your list will be a file-based external recorder. You can rent an Atoms Ninja 2, which combines a monitor with an external recorder for uncompressed footage from your camera. Price: $100.
Support: You may need more than your tripod to achieve the effect you desire. Dollies will run you between $50 to $100 for the unit itself while track to roll it along costs about $20 for eight feet. Jib arms for carrying your camera aloft will cost between $150-$300 depending on length. Sliders can run between $40 to $150, depending on length and width.
Audio: Audio gear, such as lavaliere and shotgun miss, mixers, and recorders are relatively inexpensive. A Tascam DR680 recorder which you can connect to your DSLR for quality external recording rents for about $75/day while a Zoom H6 external recorder can be had for about $50/day. Wireless lavs can be had for about $35-$65/day while shotgun and camera-mounted mics can run from $25-$50/day.  Accessories, such as boom poles, will run about $10/day.
Lighting: Tungsten lighting kits containing a pair of 1000W lights (with barn doors, c-stands and umbrellas) can be had for as little as $40 while HMIs command $150-$200 for a single light. Some rental houses have lights in kits geared for special purposes—like a Kino Flo interview kit designed to illuminate a stationary interview subject. If you need a lot of lighting though, you’ll quickly cannibalize your budget and should probably switch to a grip truck (see below). Price: $40 and up.
What You Get for $2,500
At $2,500, you can retain your list above but make a couple of key substitutions. First, you can shed your DSLR and pick up a cinema camera like Canon’s C100 ($175), Blackmagic Cinema Camera ($250) or Red Scarlet X (about $600) . You’ll still need to rent lenses, as these will ship body only, but some cinema camera kits will include the required memory (like Redmag SSDs and related reader) and external monitor so you won’t have to pay out for those.
You can also skip renting individual lights and simply rent a grip truck.  Grip trucks themselves rent for about $500 (one ton) and provide access to a selection of lights and accessories like stringer cable, dollies, c-stands, reflectors, sandbags, clamps and much more. Some companies will charge a flat fee for all the items in the truck, while others will charge a rental fee for the truck and accessories (in the $250 range) and then an itemized price list for light packages (also in the $250-range, depending on your needs). Trucks are rented by weight, typically in one, three, five and 10 ton varieties and obviously, the heavier the truck, the more lights and gear you’re getting.
You’ll also have the option to rent at least one qualified grip ($450 for an eight hour day). Usually the grip is also the driver, so driver fees and grip rental are rolled into one individual but we’ve also seen companies that charge hourly rates for drivers (in the $17.50/hour range). Remember you’re also on the hook for all permits, tolls, gas and mileage for the vehicle. Oh, and parking tickets, too.
Grip trucks will also stock consumables like gels and tape which you typically pay for on an as-needed basis. It won’t break the bank, but it’s another expense to be mindful of.
At this price it’s also easier to budget in for the use of an electronic gimbal for run-and-gun style recording. Models like the Defy G5 and DJI’s Ronin typically rent for $250-$300.
What You Get for $4,000
At this budget, you’ll have all of the above — including the grip truck (and grips) of your choice—plus the ability to rent very high-end cinema cameras from Arri.
An Alexa kit can range between  $750 and $1,500 and includes essentially everything you need (viewfinder, three 64GB SD cards, bridge plate and power supply) except the lens.  We’ve seen Alexa “movie packages” that combine the Cooke prime lens package with an Alexa EX high-speed camera, monitor, tripod, slider and matte box for $2,000.
There are more ways to customize a rental package than there are pixels we can devote to the subject (trust us, we’ve counted) but any rental service worth its salt will have qualified staff on hand that can work closely with you to craft a package for your production.

LEBRON James TV DEAL FOR 2016-2017!

INDEPENDENCE, Ohio -- LeBron James might not hold an official title within the National Basketball Players Association, but his standing as the league's best player put him in an important position to speak about the new television rights deal.

"I am kind of the guy that has the power, I guess, without even having to put a name on it," James said Monday after the league announced a nine-year extension of its TV deal with ESPN and TNT that begins in 2016-17. "I'm very educated and I will use what I have to make sure our players are taken care of."

The deal, which The New York Times reports is worth $2.66 billion annually, will nearly triple the $930 million per year the league currently takes in from its TV and digital rights.

The payday comes less than eight months into Adam Silver's already celebrated tenure as the commissioner, but James pointed out all of the work that David Stern put in running the NBA the last 30 years before retiring in February was critical in it coming together.

"Give a lot of credit to David Stern, I'll tell you that," James said. "He built our league, he built our brand and for us to be able to make a television deal like that for that type of money, it was a lot of his vision."

Just as the NBA and its broadcast partners did in striking a deal years before the current one expires, James said that the NBPA and the owners -- with the influx of TV revenue now promised -- should begin hammering out a new collective bargaining agreement before both sides can opt out following the 2016-17 season.

"At the end of the day, we will negotiate," James said. "We know it's going to happen at some point because our deal is ending soon. We would love to do it sooner than later. We don't want to it to happen like it happened last time when we went into a lockout."

The current CBA came to be in December 2011 following a 161-day lockout. The league claimed it was losing $300 million annually, with 22 of the 30 owners operating at a loss. The players accepted a new deal that gave them approximately 50 percent of the league's annual basketball-related income (BRI), a sharp decrease from the 57 percent they received from the previous CBA.

James said that the new TV deal, along with a spate of teams being sold for unprecedented sums (the Los Angeles Clippers went for $2 billion in July), will cause the players to dig in for their rightful portion of the profits this time around.

"The whole thing that went on with the last negotiation process was the owners was telling us that they were losing money. There's no way they can sit in front of us and tell us that right now after we continue to see teams selling for billions of dollars, being purchased for $200 million, [selling] for 550 [million], 750 [million], $2 billion," James said. "And now [Mikhail] Prokhorov is possibly selling his majority stake in the Nets for over a billion. So, that will not fly with us this time."

While the current CBA seems to be skewed in the owners' favor, James said that getting a deal done in order to salvage a 66-game shortened season in 2010-11 led to the explosion in revenue the league is seeing today.

"I think it was a good deal," James said. "I think you can always want more and give less. But I think both sides kind of benefited from it, as you see in this new TV deal. Both sides continue to grow it, but there's some things that we'd like to see changed as players going forward."

One of those changes could be the NBPA pursuing the abolition of max contracts. James would not comment on his stance on the subject; however, reporters including ESPN's Brian Windhorst have intimated that the increase or removal of max contracts is indeed on James' agenda for the next CBA.

"I don't even really get into speculation conversations in my name," James said. "I haven't even began to think about as far as how I'm going to go forward with what I'm doing. I've been too busy worried about how we're going to get better in training camp. But there will become a point and time where I will sit back with my team and some of the guys and from a players' perspective, from a Players Association perspective, how we go about this with this new deal approaching."

James saw the new television deal coming down the pike when he signed with the Cleveland Cavaliers in July, opting for a two-year, $42.1 million deal rather than the full max available to him of four years, $88 million. While the shortened deal also presumably put pressure on Cavs management to adopt a win-now mentality, James acknowledged that the upcoming TV deal also dictated his decision.

"It was being a businessman," James said. "I understand the business of this sport. It had a lot to do with it."

Carmelo Anthony, who re-signed with the New York Knicks in the summer for $124 million over five years, said Monday he has no regrets about signing a five-year deal with the Knicks even if a shorter-term deal could have potentially led to a more lucrative deal down the road.

"I never thought about it," Anthony said at practice. "I never thought about a two-year deal. I didn't want to have to go back and do what I did this summer, not at all. ... I signed my deal, I'm good, the organization is good."

Kevin Durant also acknowledged that players have gained leverage for future labor negotiations.

"That's a lot of money" in the new TV deal, the Thunder star and 2014 league MVP said Tuesday from Oklahoma City. "I don't see how owners can say they losing money now.

"Last year, the fans didn't really get to know exactly what was going on as far as revenue. But now that [the TV deal is done], feels like we have a little bit of leverage, I guess, as players."

James said he has learned the business side of the game from teammates like Roger Mason Jr., vice president of the NBPA, as well as James Jones, the NBPA team representative for both Miami while James played there and now the Cavs, Ray Allen (who experienced two lockouts, 2011 and 1998, during his 18-year career) and from his friend and USA Basketball teammate, Chris Paul the current NBPA president.

James said it's on the league's players to continue to enlighten one another about the business side of things.

"That's a problem that we have," James said. "Sometimes guys want money but are not educated. Guys want the best deal, but are not educated on what's going on. There's 30 owners, but there's 400-plus players. We know we have to do what's best for all the players, but at the same time, guys have to be educated about it so when the negotiation process happens, guys are not speaking just to be speaking and have no idea what's going on."

James, who famously stated his intention to become a "global icon" during an interview early on in his career, even considered a run as union president. While his busy off-court schedule full of family and endorsement obligations ultimately caused him to reconsider -- "At the end of the day, I knew I couldn't give all my time and efforts to it," he said -- he remains acutely aware and very much invested in how the NBA does its business.

"We as the Players Association and as the owners, we have to figure out how we continue to grow the pie and continue to grow the business of the game," James said. "That's the No. 1 objective. That should always be the No. 1 objective, how we continue to grow our game, because it's one of the most world-renown sports, games that we have in this world. We have to continue to do that."

The question remains if that growth can continue unfurled and whether another work stoppage can be avoided in the summer of 2017.

"Clock ticking? The clock never stopped," James said. "Even after we came out of the lockout and signed a new deal, the clock never stopped."

ALBUM REVIEW: SATURDAY NIGHT CAR TUNES

Album Review Done By: Vincent T.Maxwell

Opening Scene, lighter sparks what seem to be a joint #paperplane follows by a smooth inhale then exhale a nice mellow tempo beat plays over your audio player, a glass begin to get filled up with some sort of beverage, last but not least  the voice of our host Curren$y otherwise know as @SpittaAndritta sarinates the speakers."Not too much to where you can't drive, You know".
Ladies and Gents welcome to Saturday Night Car Tunes.                                                                           There are 7 tracks on this Mixtape album. Track 1 "intro",track 2 is titled "10 G's remix" feat the one and only Birdman(5 general) and Gunplay from MMG, track 3 "house Shoes" this track surprises me     because he messes up (and you hear it)             but he keeps it in the album (I not only               respect it I love it), track 4 is called "Nights Like This"featuring Houston rapper Rich Boy and a new rapper on the scene by the name Tiny C Style from Long Beach California the collaboration here is a classic I recommend taking a close listen to this track, track 5 titled "This Just Might" this just might be,this just might, this just might be pilot talk three. That's it,that right there is the chorus to me it sounds like a sped up motown record with Curren$y over it well put, track 6 "Music N History" another slow, smooth, mellow track done well, if you rock with Curren$y it him over this track, it disappoints me that he only had one verse. Track 7 is the last track called "Dojo" a collaboration on this track is a classic.

Everyone knows Curren$y and Wiz Khalifa been down for a while. I believe ever time they call about on a track together is a friendly competition of how much their lyrics have improved from not seeing one another sort of like what Biggie Smalls and Jayz did on Brooklyn Finest track.

In conclusion i love this album to the point i wish it rains every Saturday night just so i could put this album and smoke while          chilling with birches (don't take it personal         ladies), **** out of ***** only because not much tracks. Download this one people, NAVENT recommended.

MOVIE REVIEW: THE PRINCE

Movie Review Done by: Vincent T.Maxwell

Cast: Jason Patrick,
           Bruce Willis,
          John Cusack and
          Curtis "50 cents" Jackson

"Jason Patrick is retired hitman but, gets forced back into the life once again when his daughter gets kidnapped".
Let me first say this movie shocked me in numerous ways first, for a guy who is suppose to be a hitman Jason Patrick moves very humble especially for whom daughter gets kidnapped this was made up further along the movie with great shooting and close quarter combat.
Secondly was the small role that Curtis Jackson played I understand he was not the star nor co-workers but,for a person who is suppose to be called the "Pharmacy" I would expect more camera footage of him and third the daughter played by (can't recall the name right now) was bland just bland that's it.
Don't get me wrong this movie has its slow point but it stays true to the plot and doesn't loose the audience. This movie came straight to blu-ray and video this year I recommend this to any action movie fan. I give it **** out of ***** check it out.
Stay in the Know!
